Will nodded, broaching the subject with the caution of a fox behind a rabbit.
"You tried to kill your brother."
Margot looked at him, unresponsive. "Tried. Failed. But you know what Doctor Lecter says to that?" Will raised his brows, shaking his head. "Try, try again." Margot chuckled bitterly and bit her lip before speaking once again.
"What about you? What's your private carnage?" Margot leaned forward over her crossed legs. Will sighed, rubbing a hand over his forehead. He locked eyes with her again and muttered.
"I tried to kill Hannibal Lecter." Margot's eyes widened and a shiny canine peeked through her lips. "See? Now that's interesting." She paused, clicking her tongue. "Did he have it coming?" Will studied her, weighing in his mind whether or not to answer. He decided on the latter.
"What do you think, Margot?" He raised his brows expectantly. She shrugged.
"Can't say that I know." Will chuckled, finishing the last of his whiskey in more than a healthy gulp.
"Neither can I."

Summary
So I recently read Their Eyes Were Watching God and decided that Pheoby and Janie are definitely at least a little bit gay for eachother but there are quite literally(at time of posting) only 4 TEWWG fics on here and none of them are about Pheoby and Janie. The obvious solution was to write the fic myself.
This fic takes place at the end of the book after Janie finishes telling her story to Pheoby and serves as an alternate ending (although by no means am I claiming the og ending is bad or that I think mine is better.)
ALSO: I decided not to write the dialogue with the same dialect in the original book because I've never been to the communities the text is referencing
