That part of Simon had grown overbearing and loud, pressing itself into the recesses of Simon’s brain until he could no longer find a corner to retreat away from its violent fantasies. Guilt always accompanied the warm feeling that bubbled across his chest, but it wasn’t enough to chase the thoughts away. He feared the day he ever lost control of himself. Rocky and Grace had been a beacon of kindness after such intense hardship—maybe his resolution would finally crack, and the leak would find its way through to flood into this peaceful part of Simon’s life.

As a kid, he loved to gather the seed heads, letting them scatter on the wind with an exhale and a wish. Even if it was all pretend for his childish self, his current self could use the softness of an old habit such as this. Something fun to spread to his fellow walkers.

Summary
An Eridian mining crew find a human welded into a stranded ship on the surface of a moon. They bring him back to Erid, to the only other human they know.
Something in Grace's chest flickered into life. He had buried it so long ago that he hardly knew what it was anymore, and so he took off his glasses and cleaned them on the edge of his cardigan, as if Rocky's words were a smudge he could clear away before finding the will to hope.
“Ah…” his words failed halfway out of his mouth. Rocky chittered at him, a little sound of encouragement. “There’s another human? Here. And… alive?”

Simon's usually stoic face scrunched with confusion. "What are you doing?"
"Well- I just, ya know. I just wanted to-" Grace closed his eyes and took a deep breath that did nothing to calm his nerves before he shakily managed out. "I made you, a bouquet."
Simon's expression only twisted further into distress, "Why did you do that?"
Grace felt his measly courage wheeze out of him like a pathetic balloon, letting out a weak little, "Huh?"
After a moment for this brain to catch up with his mouth, he gulped and opened his mouth to try again, then stopped. Started again. "It’s… flowers."
"Yes," Simon said slowly, "I can see that."
Grace swallowed and tentatively added, "…For you."
That landed wrong. Simon’s immediately tensed, not in anger, more like suspicion and concern. He eyed the flowers with pursed lips before slowly drawing out another, "Why?"
"What?"
