    Summary

Instead of joining the Night's Watch, Jon travels south to squire for Stannis on Dragonstone. Roughly spanning the events of A Game of Thrones through A Storm of Swords, Stannis and Jon investigate the royal incest mess, fight battles in and out of the courtroom, attend a joyous wedding, and come to rely on each other more than they ever expected.

    Summary

Can't wait for GRRM to publish the fourth Dunk and Egg novella? Neither could I. So I wrote it.

The She-Wolves of Winterfell. ~38,000 words.

I went through all three novellas and The World of Ice and Fire, mapped every Stark from Cregan to little Artos, and tried to get as close to GRRM's voice as I could. Every detail is canon-sourced.

Dunk and Egg ride north through the Neck, past the ruins of Moat Cailin, and into a land where knights are unknown and the old gods hold sway. At Winterfell, Lord Beron Stark lies dying. Five Stark women circle his empty chair, each with their own claim and their own claws. They call them the She-Wolves.

Dunk came for the Wall. He stopped for silver. He stayed for bread and salt. Now he's tangled in a succession crisis he cannot understand, with a mule that has opinions and a squire who knows too much.

For everyone waiting for Season 2, or for the day the real She-Wolves sees the light. This is the closest I could get.

Updated April 2026. Thanks to Stenric (Reddit), Brinady, MythicalCusband, and Alien99 (AO3) for catching what I'd missed: canon, gruffness, the reunion, Tanselle, travel time, battle scale. All fixed.

    Summary

"You saunter beside me, talking of the beauty of the morning, not even knowing that there has been a flood." - Margaret Atwood, "After the Flood, We."

Mother pauses, having reached the end of all her curls, and then splays her palm flat on Argella’s head, as if to impart some wisdom or blessing. “He left Jenny Mudd at Summerhall,” she says quietly, because there are little mice and spiders and birds all around the Red Keep, and they all wind their merry little way back to Aegon and his upstart Hand. Argella’s impending good father has never been anything but kind, gracious, and conciliatory to her and her family. But they do not forget, and neither does he. Her father was one raven away from declaring rebellion against the Iron Throne when Aegon finally managed to bring his boy to heel.

(Duncan weds Lyonel Baratheon's daughter, but refuses to set aside his beloved Jenny. Argella Baratheon dreams of rain, and waits for the flood.)

    Summary

Lyanna Stark lives, and with her son Jon she returns to Winterfell after the fall of the Mad King. Six years of uneasy peace follow, as Rhaegar Targaryen rules from King’s Landing and the realm heals its scars. But old wounds fester, new alliances form, and the game of thrones stirs again. In the North, wolves grow strong; in the South, dragons cling to crowns of ash and whispers. Between wolves and lions, stags and snakes, one boy must learn what it means to be both Stark and Targaryen, as the fate of kingdoms bends once more toward war.

    Summary

Upon learning of his sister’s abduction, Brandon Stark is persuaded to practice patience at Brynden Tully’s behest. Together, they lead a search party that heads not for the Red Keep, but for Prince Rhaegar himself. This puts a wedge in Rhaegar’s plans and nearly throttles Lyanna’s dreams of freedom-- but only nearly. It falls to Ser Arthur Dayne to brave the task of escorting the wolfish lady to the Tower of Joy, and the pair embark on a journey that will seal their fates.

They say that it’s the journey that’s important, not the destination; and indeed, it is the journey that makes all the difference.
