Summary
Rhea Avila is a long way from home.
A volunteer militant in an international brigade fighting in the Spanish Civil War, her home country of Greece is a distant memory in the killing fields of the Iberian peninsula. She came to kill fascists, and gets more than she bargained for when an illithid nautiloid snatches her from the frontlines, and unceremoniously dumps her on the unknown shores of an unknown land in an unknown world. Discombobulated, lost, and terrified, Avila must embark on a treacherous journey she did not ask for to track down a missing comrade, find a way home, and confront her own skeletons along the way. All the while, forces familiar and new alike align against her and her newfound allies to eradicate any small glimmer of hope they might try to cling to.
For a woman so embittered and so cynical, such things are rare, and precious, and heartbreaking.
