Summary
The phone lights up on the coffee table. It's a number he half-recognizes — a few weeks back a package for his apartment went to 4D by mistake, and he texted the guy to sort it out, and the guy wrote back a paragraph and a half about how the mail situation in this building was, his words, "a war crime." Eddie didn't save the number. He meant to. It just lives in his phone now as a stranger, and the stranger is texting him.
Unknown: hey. HEY. ok this is the package guy from 4D. ur 4B. i need to ask u somethign and its important
Unknown: u have the good dog right
Eddie: Who is this?
Unknown: i JUST said. package guy. 4D. anyway i hear his little feet in the hallway sometiems. tap tap tap. like a tiny gentleman. and i need to know hes real
Eddie knows who this is. Big guy, loud, holds the elevator and then narrates the entire ride down.
Eddie: Are you drunk?
Unknown: thats a seperate issue from the dog
Which is not a no.
Eddie: [image]
Unknown: OH MY GOD

Summary
He stands, frozen, at the foot of the bed, and watches as Eddie parents his child.
When did that happen? he wonders, a buzzing alarm set loose in his head. The knowledge of it– the feeling that comes with it– crashes over him.
Eddie glances up, all dark eyes and warm concern when he’s the one in the hospital bed, and oh–
Buck loves him.
or: eddie gets hurt, theo has a crashout, and buck has a realization, in that order.

Summary
Buck is silent on the other side of the curtain. Eddie wonders if maybe he’s given up, if there was enough bite in Eddie’s words to send him the other direction. He takes a trembling breath and watches water where it’s beaded on his lips and nose and lashes before it falls breath-stoked towards the shower floor. Eddie thinks, a little wildly, that this would be the view of the god he prayed to that night in the chapel. The thing that watches everything and answers, that sends the rain and the hurt and the death. The thing his abuela so desperately wanted Eddie to find.
He thought he had when he got that text, in that one breath before the knife. He was so sure he’d figured it out, but water droplets can’t look up, and gods weren’t made to be found.

Summary
“C'mere," Buck says, sitting up to scoot closer to Eddie.
"What are you doing?” Eddie asks, and Buck sighs.
"You can just kiss me, get a taste of the lip balm, and tell me what flavour you think it is.”
Eddie can’t believe his ears.
"That is such a stupid way to win a bet, Buck."
“Oh so you concede?"
Eddie rolls his eyes, shaking his head before planting both hands on the sides of Buck's face and hauling him in to press their lips together.
OR
Buck and Eddie make a bet on whether or not Eddie can guess all of Buck's lip balm flavours, and in order for Eddie to get a taste, they have to kiss.

Summary
"Are you married?”
Christopher coughed so hard he nearly dropped his phone.
Buck choked on nothing.
Eddie said, “No.”
Theo turned to Buck. “Why?”
Buck’s mouth opened.
Eddie got there first. “Because you have to ask someone before you marry them.”
Theo considered this.
Then he looked at Buck. “Did you ask?”
“No,” Buck said quickly.
Theo looked at Eddie. “Did you ask?”
“No.”
“Why?”
Christopher whispered, “Great question.”
