Summary
There is something wrong with Maekar. Baelor has known it from the moment of the first charge, when the horn sounded and Maekar… did not ride. Did not move at all. It is difficult to see what he is doing exactly, through the thick fog, but it is clear he is not moving.
Baelor shifts targets, taking Aerion off his horse in a shower of spear shards before Aerion and Dunk can even meet. He looks once at Maekar, still on his horse, before he wheels around. He cannot focus on Maekar. This is not like Redgrass, his task now is not to reach Maekar, not to defend Maekar. Not to help. Here, they are on opposite sides, and Maekar… whatever is wrong with him, it’ll keep until Baelor has the chance to deal with it.

“CHORUS: Brave girl.
KASSANDRA: People never say that to a lucky person, do they?” — Agamemnon, by Aeschylus (trans. Anne Carson)It had seemed like the bells had tolled funeral marches without end. First had been Prince Rhaegel, the King’s sickly middle son, and then his second-born, Prince Aerys. Then most shocking of all, Prince Matarys. He had only been four-and-ten, a hale and healthy princeling. With his brother Prince Valarr dead on Ashford Meadow, the primary line of succession was wiped out in a single stroke. Fools on the street began saying that House Targaryen was cursed, that the price for their incest and fornication and tyranny was finally coming due.
(In the aftermath of the tourney at Ashford Meadow, House Targaryen reels.)

Summary
“Remember what they call you, Perseus. Remember that you walk in the steps of giants. Remember that nine hundred years ago, it was Paris who let all of Troy burn for one woman.”
Aphrodite, in the body of Annabeth, takes his face in her hands, and gods above, Perseus sways in her touch, leaning into the palm of the girl he still adores, smelling the salt and sweetness of Mykonos on her. He thinks of her in Athens, peaceful and unaware of what will come. Of what will happen when he sends the tsunami over her beloved city.
“Yield, Perseus, and you may have her,” Aphrodite pleads. Perseus shuts his eyes in guilt. Another heartbeat passes, and he hears both her curiosity and pity. “But you would lose everything else too, wouldn’t you?”

Perseus is recruited to fight for Sparta in ancient times. Annabeth, meanwhile, sides with the enemy. In other words: love in the time of the Peloponnesian War.
