Summary
I’m having trouble remembering her. and I’m a little exhausted, if I may say. a little bored. but you knew her, yes?
like the back of his hand. like every deadline she counted down to with hers. like every day for the past twenty years.
yes, yes I think you did. of course you did.
gabriel remembers nathalie, one last time.

Summary
“So! I swear I can’t see a yard in front of me. Guide me, Nathalie. Your voice is nice.”
Nathalie presses the phone to her ear so hard it hurts, but the facts remain the same. Nathalie is here, Emilie is there.
or: at the end of it all, Nathalie’s wish gets answered, too.

Summary
Adrien rakes his hand through his hair. Gives a small shrug. “So you weren’t romantic. But you didn’t think that maybe one day, you might…?”
“Fall in love?”
Adrien nods.
“No,” Nathalie admits.
Adrien folds his arms on the table and tilts his head to rest on his shoulder. Watching him turn her words over, Nathalie feels as if she’s missing something. Failing a test.
“It’s just that you sounded so sad. When you said it was a miscarriage.”
There's never an end to what Adrien does not know, but there's an end to what Nathalie can give Adrien, isn't there?

Summary
after gaining custody of Adrien, Nathalie weighs what is in his best interest: stay with her, a woman struggling with a role she never wanted, along with an encompassing sense of guilt, or start anew with his aunt?
and if the choice is so clear, why is she hesitating? If the end is inevitable, why delay it?
at the same time, Amelie drops in to foster a relationship with her nephew, expecting to know all the answers already. There’s a word for Nathalie that fits most of the population, after all.
or: what begins as a short investigation into Adrien’s home life turns into something neither Nathalie nor Amelie expected.

Summary
It had been several days since their mother had visited.
The grandmother, ever diligent, brought them their ham and cheese sandwiches, and lukewarm soups, and potato salads, and cold fried chicken that made the twins just stare in displeasure, their little noses turned up.

Summary
I kissed him suddenly, unable to resist his sweet lips that slotted against mine as if ours were made for each other. And Chris groaned into my mouth, sighing, relaxing against me. For how could this be a sin? How could God create two identical halves, so different, yet so alike, that fit together perfectly like puzzle pieces?
