In the event Alhaitham saw Kaveh again, he thought Kaveh might've looked at him like a stranger. Like he didn't know him.
But here, now, Kaveh looks at Alhaitham like he knows him. Like they're anything but strangers.
He does. They are.
They're so much more than that and they both know it. You can't throw away a decades worth of friendship and hatred and joy and heartache away in a single movement.
They knew each other. They know each other now.
But the difference between now and then is that today, instead of going home together, they will go their separate ways.
Alhaitham, to the empty home they once shared.
Kaveh, to the new life he's building.
//or, kaveh moves out but can't seem to stay away.

Alhaitham steps out into the city's momentarily peaceful sidewalks. “How amusing. On the contrary, I think you’re trying to kill me. I’ve been thinking about your pictures all day, it never left my mind. Not even once. And you think I’m being unfair here.”
Kaveh laughs into his ear, cocky and teasing. “I didn’t know I had such an effect on you, Haitham,”
“You know very well what you do to me,” Alhaitham growls, voice low. “Such a brat. A spoiled one at that. Do I need to teach you a lesson again, senior?”

“What the fuck?”
“I don’t know.”
Two large, fluffy ears sat on top of Alhaitham’s head, in the same colour as his hair but dotted with black spots. And, peeking out from the hem of his sweatpants was the tip of a thick, furry, grey… tail.
“What the fuck?”“I don’t know,” Alhaitham repeated, crossing his arms. “Such exclamations aren’t specifically helpful to my situation.”
Even in the dimness of the too-early morning, it was clear that his newly-acquired ears flattened in distress as he spoke, much like those of a kitten.
