Ratio pinched the bridge of his nose. Aventurine would have found the action adorable if it wasn’t so tense, “And I don’t see how you don’t get it. I simply wish you would see yourself as I…as anyone with a modicum of intellect would.”
“Modicum of intellect?” Aventurine huffed, “Come on, Doc. Someone with a thousandth of your brain would still be smarter than most.”
“You exaggerate,” Ratio said simply.
Even with the pit in his stomach, Aventurine had to laugh at that, “Alright, now who’s being deluded?”
But Ratio didn’t seem swayed, “I’m hardly as special as you suggest.”
Something about his tone struck Aventurine. It was reserved rather than humble. Meek almost, if anything about Ratio could be described that way. He didn’t like it, “Hold on. Ratio, are you being serious right now?”
“Of course. It‘s hardly the time to be joking around."
In which Aventurine tries to show Ratio just how amazing he is and how much Aventurine appreciates him (which is sort of hard considering Aventurine doesn't have the highest opinion of himself).
