Summary
Look me in the eyes, if you dare. Look at my hands—at my dry, lifeless palms, stained red all over. Red all over. I’m sorry about the carpet; I didn’t mean to lie down on it. Made a mess. The red dried a while ago: my palms, my face, the floor. The carpet. Where were you? Why are you so late?

Summary
“When I come back?” he echoes, as if to make sure he heard right.
“Yeah,” Nicholas’ lips curve, though his expression doesn’t quite reach a smile. “But don’t make me wait too long, okay?”
Right before enlistment, Euijoo and Nicholas fuck things up. It takes them four years to finally make it right.

Summary
“Call my dick my friend again and I’ll kill you,” Nicholas spits, the threat coming out as angrily as the grip on his face allows. Taki doesn’t look like he plans on easing it anytime soon.
“It’s not like you use it for anything, do you, now?” he retorts without missing a beat, his tone dripping with mockery.
Nicholas hates Taki's guts. They fuck about it often.

Summary
Because that’s the whole point of his want—this heavenly feeling he chases over and over again that only works if Fuma takes the bait and treats him like the worst thing he’s ever seen. If he uses him as he pleases. If he makes Nicholas cry, and beg, and apologise. That’s exactly what Nicholas looks for—this high that he only reaches when he feels at his lowest, right at Fuma’s feet.
Admittedly, putting it into words makes it sound a little fucked up. That’s why Nicholas stopped talking about it with Euijoo. There’s just no way in hell he’d ever bring him around to his side with these words alone.

Summary
Kei has this amused glint in his eyes that he gets when he sees Euijoo flustered. Apparently the reaction makes him want to tease Euijoo even further. So Kei leans in to whisper like he’s letting Euijoo in on a little secret, “Nico is sweet once he spreads his legs so you don’t have to worry about him teasing you.”
“That’s not—“ Euijoo splutters, eyes wide with surprise and desperation to defend himself. He willfully fights the image of Nicholas under him, legs wrapped around his waist and looking up from his lashes expectantly.
(Or: Nicholas is bad at dealing with his heat, Euijoo in turn suffers along with him.)

Summary
"What happened?" Euijoo asks, voice caught somewhere between a rasp and whisper.
Fuma fights a grimace. He coughs on the inhale, a sour puff of smoke blowing out around him, and even through the charcoal filter, it burns. Not the right way. Not the way it should.
"I wish you wouldn’t ask questions you already know the answer to."
or
Fuma and Euijoo compartmentalize.

Summary
Where, unhinged, desperate; where am I allowed to look? The thought echoes in Taki's head, eyes searching the expanse of Nicholas' skin for something safe to fixate on.
Then Nicholas touches the right side of his belly with one finger. Here. There.
The house Taki lives in, and the hunger he lives with.

Summary
Euijoo meets Nicholas in a bar on Manhattan Beach Pier during the 2021 International Surf Festival. Nicholas is lean, blonde, bounces off the walls and laughs loud. His voice is deeper than it should be and he’s got little to no game, but Euijoo sticks around anyway. Nicholas is built and he’s hot, his shirt tight across his shoulders, his hair wild around his ears. He’s bright like sunshine and his lips are sinful when they wrap around the neck of a beer bottle or the rim of a glass of coke.
Nicholas doesn’t live too far from the pier; they walk side by side on the beach, talking about LA. Euijoo’s accent seems to stick to the roof of his mouth, and he pushes his hands in the pockets of his boardshorts to keep himself from reaching out, feeling Nicholas’s pulse at his wrist, seeing if it beats as fast as he talks. Nicholas takes his sandals off, toes digging in the sand.
Nicholas says, suddenly, cutting through the random topics they’re fleeting on, “I don’t really do this,” which seems like a lie until he adds, “With guys, I mean.”
To love is to change. Euijoo and Nicholas change each other, over the course of 5 summers.

Summary
Come, it’s like Nicholas is saying; come where it’s warm and lonely. Come where you fit just right.
Taki then tucks himself in, toes tingling at the whiff of everything Nicholas wrapping around him. He fights his way into slumber and ignores all the ways in which Nicholas isn’t.
Those nights aren’t for himself.
For Taki, it’s about wanting. Nicholas thinks it’s about balance.
