Summary
John Munch is every bit as romantic as he is stubborn, a dangerous combination when fate decides to place a tarot reader in his path. After she predicts a less-than-pleasant evening and offers a few warnings he has no intention of taking seriously, Munch does what Munch does best: Ignores good advice and presses forward with a well-intentioned surprise for the woman he loves.
The result is a spectacular disaster that leads to a breakup and four thousand dollars' worth of regret.
Convinced the enigmatic woman somehow set his downfall in motion, Munch becomes obsessed with finding her again, ranting to whoever would listen that she had cursed him. What follows in a series of increasingly ridiculous encounters that force him to confront a possibility far more unsettling than magic:
Maybe his problems are his own fault.
Even worse than that, he finds himself drawn into the orbit of a woman who is far more patient, kind, and impossible to ignore than he'd like.
