Suguru squeezes his hand with a strength that should be illegal for a dying person, takes in the look on his face, and laughs.

“Oh, Satoru,” he murmurs, “you do care.”

His hand tightens on Suguru's shirt. He leans forward until their foreheads are touching.

"Of course I care," he mutters. "I've always cared."

"Geto-sama, who's Gojo Satoru anyway? He's super strong right?"

Nanako watches a calloused hand freeze mid-page flip, the other tightening white around his favorite book's cover. Then, as if nothing happened, he completes the action, exhaling softly out of his nose.

"Hm...He was my best friend. But we fought and it's been like this ever since."

It's a solemn answer, one Nanako would have gladly accepted from her father and savior...if only she hadn't heard the sound of his name falling from Geto's lips years prior. She and Mimiko exchange knowing looks.

    "Just your best friend?"

    Nanako hears her dad choke.

Geto Suguru insists he and his ex-best friend have grown apart since he left Jujutsu Tech. Nanako and Mimiko remember things a little differently.

(Where, years before JJK0, Satoru finds Suguru in hiding and wiggles his way back into his ex-best friend’s life, and the twins navigate getting to know "Geto Suguru" before he became "Geto-sama.")

“I don’t understand,” Suguru hears himself say.

“It’s a curse that comes from love,” Kuroi says, but she looks like she’s reciting a death sentence, and that doesn’t exactly instill Suguru with confidence. “Unrequited love, to be exact. Flowers bloom in your lungs the longer you think about them, until—” her voice grows quieter with every word, but Suguru can only hear the words getting louder as they echo in his skull, “—you die.”

“Unrequited love,” Suguru repeats to himself, and his mind wanders to broken sunglasses, cherry lollipops, and lazy mornings.

    Summary

He was eating curses. One, after another, after another, after another, after another, like there was no end to them, like this was some kind of nightmarish buffet with no cost, no limit, his hands fumbled messily and he felt his palm mash against his teeth, sometimes a spare dripping or tendril would lash acidly against his cheek or burn a line down his chin, and still he kept eating and eating and eating, nauseous with the grease of swallowed blood, and it took him a long time, too long, to realize this was not some terrible dream, or an exaggerated memory, or even hell. He was simply still alive.

(Suguru, trapped in his own body.)
