She rests it on her lap as she sits next to him. He notices her cheeks are slightly red. “I got you something.”
He raises an eyebrow. “You didn’t have to do that.”
“I wanted to! And you deserve to have more on your birthday. I want it to be a happy day for you. So, um…” She shoves it at him, closing her eyes in nervousness. “Here!”
He laughs as he grabs it, almost falling back on the bed from the present’s size and force of Tohru giving it to him. When he has a good hold on it, he leans in to peck her cheek. “Thanks.”

Kyo pauses, processes the situation, then chuckles and wraps his arms around her in return. “So this is what you wanted?” She presses closer. “I’ll take that as a yes.”
They stay like that for a minute, never feeling more at home.
Kyo knows he has a million chores to do, but he’ll never pass up the chance to hold his wife.

Aang groans softly. “It hurts.” Oh, he really hopes he doesn’t give her the fever. Zero out of ten, would not recommend. “Thank you.”
Katara grins and tugs the healing water closer to her. “You can thank me after you feel better. Maybe it’ll work today.”
Aang whispers, “I already feel better,” and he feels elated at the way she blushes. Six years of marriage and he can still make her giggle, sending her into the spinning rollick of glee and youth and impossibility. He likes charming her; always has.
In which Aang is sick, Katara heals him, and Aang firmly believes that Katara deserves a national holiday named after her.

Summary
They said Katara was lonely. That her sweetheart scarcely sent letters once every few months, far too focused on the rebuilding efforts in the north. She was betrothed and Aang needed to respect it and he wanted to die, leaning there against the ginkgo as she laughed up at the rain.
Wondering was a terrible path. He took it often.
In which Aang is ridiculously, over-the-moon in love with fellow city council member (and his friend) Katara. It's just too bad she's engaged to someone else.
