Natalie only kisses Lottie to shut everyone up. That's it. That's the whole reason.
Now they're "dating." At least, that's what it looks like. It's not like anything really has to change. They've always been too close, too touchy, and too easy with each other to just pass as friends. If anything, pretending just means they can stop pretending not to.
But the longer they lean into it, the harder it gets to keep calling it a joke. Because the way Lottie looks at her isn't new. And the way Natalie keeps not pulling away? That's not new either.

Deb’s words rattle around Jackie’s skull as she stands outside the hospital room. The plain wooden door seems to mock her. Why can’t she grab it? Why is she just standing there?
"She’s not the same as you remember."
Jackie's appendix ruptures the morning she's supposed to board the plane to Nationals. The flight never makes it to Seattle. Two years later, rescuers find the team alive, and Jackie thinks her nightmare is finally ending. Except the Shauna that returns to their hometown is not the same as the one who left.

Jackie inhales gingerly, passing the joint to Van before exhaling. “Whatever…”
“Yeah ‘whatever’ Jackie,” Natalie mimics Jackie’s sullen tone. “Stop acting like such a prude. I suck dick so what? I don’t see you shying away from indirect dicksucking.”
Jackie bristles at the wrap around, how neatly Natalie refocuses the topic of contempt. At the same time, Van chokes on smoke, laughing. “Fuck– indirect dicksucking, god do not imply that. I’m smoking too.” She comically gazes at the filter, pulling a face before playfully handing it off to Natalie.
