"How was practice?" Kenta asks before Kim even actually acknowledges him through the phone.
Kim lets out a soft chuckle to himself as he sets his phone onto his dresser, hands going to undo the towel around his waist so that he can get dressed in his sleep clothes. "I smoked everyone. Honestly, I'm getting a bit bored with it. There's no one over here that's as much of a challenge as Babe, you know?"
Kenta hums softly before going quiet for a long moment. Kim uses the silence to slip into his sleep pants. "Have you thought about coming back? I'm sure Babe would love to race with you again. He's barely got any competition without you or Charlie to push him."
It's a thinly veiled excuse and they both know it. Kim doesn't point it out. "I'm under contract here. I can't just leave in the middle of the season to race Babe because we're both lonely on the track." More excuses.
"Are you ever going to come back?" Kenta's voice takes a softer turn. Uncertain and quiet.

Mobei Jun’s face turned with amusement. “Not really. I wasn’t able to come right away.”
“So you were watching me,” Shang Qinghua confirmed teasingly.
Mobei Jun walked toward him, the humored upturn of his lips growing. “Only a little.”
Shang Qinghua turned to face him as Mobei Jun came to a stop beside him. “My king,” Shang Qinghua said in belated greeting, ducking his head.
Mobei Jun caught his chin and tilted his head back up. He sighed. “I wish you wouldn’t be so formal sometimes.”

In an attempt to work out an alliance with the king of the Northern Desert, Luo Binghe, Shen Qingqiu, and Shang Qinghua go to Mobei Jun's palace. Shang Qinghua falls in love. He isn't sure what to do about that.

Unbearably, he was right. Shang Qinghua had never been in this position before, and he was likely much less frazzled than someone would normally be in his position. He felt almost silly, almost like an amateur, and that feeling sunk into his stomach unpleasantly. His only consolation was that Mobei Jun was smart, and had a reputation that spoke for itself, and any other time Shang Qinghua had been involved with someone like that, it was from a much different vantage point.
