“It’s neither of those things,” James said firmly. “I don’t regret it. I’m not ashamed of liking it, either.”
“You should be,” Regulus whispered. “Don’t you understand? You need to find Christ, Potter. You’ll see it’s the only way out of the claws of sin. He can save you.”
James shook his head sadly. “I’m not sure he can, Regulus. If God wants me to give up what I value and everything that makes me happy, if He wants me to be cruel, then I’m not sure I want to be saved. I don’t think I could live like that. Your brother couldn’t either.”
Regulus’ eyes hardened. “My brother made a choice.”
“He did. And he’s so much happier now that he isn’t being systematically coerced into being something he’s not by people who’re supposed to love him,” James snapped bitterly.
“Oh, go to hell,” Regulus shoved him back quite hard.
James, stunned, stumbled back. “I wasn’t thinking, I–”
“Damn you, Potter,” was the last thing Regulus said before grabbing his shoulders and kissing him.

Sirius runs his hand through his hair. “If you wanna come just to ogle at James, just say so.”
“Shut up!” Regulus throws a pillow at his head, which Sirius promptly throws back. “You heard him yourself, he thinks I’m adorable! He gave me chocolate. Once I start going to Hogwarts, we can be together.”
Sirius cackles. “Oh Merlin, it’s even worse than I thought.”
or; Regulus' incredibly embarrassing childhood crush on James Potter (which his nine year old self was very vocal about) haunts him for years (because Sirius won't shut the fuck up about it).

Sirius turned back immediately, eyes wild.
Stay. As he anticipated the word, he felt that familiar, stubborn tension where his tongue met his throat. He still got stuck sometimes, on sounds like ‘st’, or ‘str’. If he tried now, he’d stumble over stay.
They couldn’t both get out. One of them would have to hurt.
“Don’t come back.”
