Dave has known Aaron for long enough to know that, when he calls and asks if Dave can come help out for a few months while they're down a couple agents, Aaron must really be drowning. Why wouldn't he be? Jason's resigned (which is a story Dave still needs to get the rest of), there's only one experienced agent on the team plus one green field agent and two 'other people' he's not sure what they do, and another agent was recently shot in her home during a case that seems to have put the entire team through the wringer. Sure, he can go back to the BAU for a few months; by the holidays, he'll be back to working on his next book and going on his speaking tours. What's the worst that can happen?
OR: A Season 2-divergence AU/fixit where Gideon left in the wake of the FIsher King case instead of leaving after Frank.

Derek shrugged his shoulders, smirking. "I'm just saying, Reid, Hotch doesn't like olives, you do and, well--you've always liked theories."
