Reigen has never told anyone about it—not even in passing, not while drunk or tired or too upset to care, not as an icebreaker or as a sometimes-I-hurt-too outstretched hand of sympathy. Twenty years he’s kept it locked away like an old family heirloom and now he’s presented it to Mob like a pathetic, poor dowry, dusty and frayed and aged, sickly-yellow.
Mob. He’d almost forgotten. Before this Mob had been staring at him with barely-contained curiosity and enthusiasm. Now that expression wilts, melting like sugar in a hot pan, and Reigen has never seen anything so gut-wrenching. Now Mob slowly sits back, slowly pulls his hands into his own lap, and slowly blinks. "... What?"

Summary
Once, not so long ago, there was a little house on a little hill in a little town nestled quietly in a not-so-little wilderness. The little house had stood there for quite some time, but the front had recently been renovated into a shop.
Inside the house, past the shop, and in the rear kitchen sat a young boy poring over a large ledger that lay open on the big kitchen table. A luminous being hovered by his shoulder, looking on as the boy wrote down careful numbers in each of the columns.
Or: that one where Shen Yuan gets transmigrated into the NPC Fairy Helper (and con artist), Shen Qingqiu, in an indie Item Shop sim and has to engineer a new ending that doesn’t end with him getting his wings ripped off. Meanwhile, young Luo Binghe -budding shopkeep, unwitting scam victim, and the titular character of ‘Luo Binghe’s Little Shoppe of Curiosities’- has a new best friend and he can’t WAIT to see what mysterious adventures await them!

“We’ve been in discussions over the past few weeks,” she continued, ignoring the increasingly closed off look on his face. “I’ve noticed how much he favors you, and that is why I’m asking you to step down and return to the Human Realm.”
Or: Shang Qinghua quits his job as Mobei-Jun’s servant, takes a sabbatical leave from An Ding and travels the world – his world, the one he created – before finally hitting the “return home” button. Or so he planned.
