Summary
“I could be your three out of three.”
When Shane blinks at him, Rozanov pushes his hair back, curls bouncing back wetly.
“I am an alpha, yes? And I am single. Sometimes, I am asshole. This I admit. Charming asshole, but still asshole. But I would–for you, I would be nice.”
Shane Hollander has a plan for his first natural heat in five years: Hayden’s couch, strict boundaries, and absolutely no complications.
The plan did not account for Ilya Rozanov.

Summary
Ilya wasn’t a planner. He was a river running downhill: fast, loose, ready to bounce and bend at any rock or gully. Or sometimes he enjoyed pouring himself into the containment of other structures set up for him: hockey star, playboy, Russian menace, goon. In all cases he was liquid, malleable, and chaotic.
Weak and disorganized, his father had said. Adaptable and resilient, his mother had countered. She never defended such insults for herself.
But he was about to have twelve hours alone with Shane, and he didn’t want to waste a minute of it. So, he had planned a little.

ORTwo weeks after the Boston jail incident they're finally going to see each other in person at All-Stars and spend the night together. They're hoping and pining and planning things, which they'll both definitely be very normal about and communicate effectively.

Summary
“This is hard to talk about,” is all he says, though he knows it will amount to nothing.
Shane’s fingertips are feather-soft on his chest. “You have to.”
He has to, because Shane and Ilya have this thing, now, this agreement. Nothing is too hard to talk about. Nothing is off limits. They have to be bare, have to surrender the deepest crevice of their soul to one another. And Ilya, for whom this is easier said than done, whose chest carries a perpetual weight, an immovable mass, it’s all worth it – worth the relief smoothing over Shane’s features, the reassurance that he’s not worried anymore, that Ilya can give him this peace, albeit only a fragment of what Shane gives him by just being there when he wakes up. He would never say it, but he thinks that what he has to offer to Shane amounts to nothing – nothing compared to what Shane does, what Shane is, by simply nuzzling into his chest and sighing into his sleep, late at night when all Ilya can do is lay awake and just feel.
“I need more,” Ilya says. “And is nothing you can do. I need you inside me, and it feels terrible.” He swallows, with great difficulty. God. “I need to– I need to eat you.”
or, Ilya never knew love can hurt this good

Summary
As a straight man, Ilya Rozanov has never had a gay roommate before, but it’s going pretty well. Shane Hollander is kind, silly, and an even bigger hockey nut than Ilya.
So when Shane starts bringing men over, and Ilya begins to want to bash their fucking heads in, Ilya comes to a startling conclusion: He must be homophobic.
(He’s jealous.)

Bookmarker's Notes
Perfect. Commented: This is one of the best things I’ve ever read. It’s brilliant and adorable and heartbreaking (it made me cry) and hot and funny and precious and beautiful. Also your depiction of the characters and their interactions is so lovely and so believable—as genuinely kind people who are also quirky and complex, and who actually show each other how much they care and do things to make each other’s lives better—and I mean this when I say it’s one of the only actually great romances I’ve ever come across.

Summary
“Shane doesn’t want to take something from Ilya that he enjoys. And he doesn’t want to plant the seed of resentment. He’s already asked Ilya to give up so many things for him. He’s asked Ilya to always come back to him in the end, and Ilya always does and always will. That has to be enough for Shane. It doesn’t matter what Ilya does with other people. It’s just sex.”
——
When Ilya offers Shane an open relationship during The Long Game, Shane assumes that’s because Ilya isn’t willing to be monogamous. Ilya has always been with other people. Why would that change now?
