“You’re not what I expected, Gustave,” She eventually settles on, somehow saying his name exactly as Verso had before leaving.
“I guess we’ll see if that ends up being to my detriment or not,” He replies and she finally relinquishes her hold on Gustave’s chair, who immediately pulls back from the table and stands.
“You will grow to resent meeting him,” She says finally as he turns around.
“You’re probably right,” He replies without looking at her.

Gustave’s life before meeting Verso had been normal, routine, scheduled. Suddenly after one night everything in his life has become … complicated.
The more he learns about the ways the Dessendre’s operate, the deeper into their web he entangles himself in, the harder it seems to draw himself out.

Summary
Casual touches that before felt friendly, loving, comfortable, suddenly felt just a bit more charged.
It wasn’t really a tension in the air between them, just like it never really had been before, simply an inevitability.
A fixed point.
Gustave brushes past Lune cooking breakfast the next morning, a hand on her waist as he grabs sugar for his coffee and she lets out an exhale, not quite a gasp but more than a breath. Sciel’s hand lingers as it drags over Verso’s shoulders whenever he practices the piano.
Verso traces the outlines of Lune’s arm tattoo while the four of them watch trash on tv. Lune tucks a wayward curl behind Gustave’s ear before they go out to eat.
All of the touches could be explained as casual.
They weren’t.

Summary
“You have a dog?” Gustave asks in lieu of a greeting, unable to distinguish what kind of dog it was. Medium to large in size he would think, his head is about half way up Verso’s thigh sitting next to him. His coat was short, light caramel brown, black and white fur, medium size nose length and pointed ears. ‘Definitely a mutt of some variety, maybe something with a terrier?’
“Good morning to you too, Gustave. Can I help you?” Verso asks, his tone seemingly annoyed but he had an amused tilt to his lips that was on its way to a smile.
AU - In which everyone in the canvas ends up reasonably adjusted, and Verso has a dog.

Verso buys a gift for Gustave, even though Gustave very clearly asked him not to, knowing Verso enjoys spoiling him too much with very expensive things. Luckily Gustave finds himself enjoying their shared gift immensely once he realizes what it actually is.

Modern AU - by Gustave’s definition, he is most certainly not a virgin, (frottage to the point of mutual completion back in his high school days) but that definition just isn’t doing it anymore at 32, so he goes to a bar for a hookup just to get rid of all of his fucking nerves about the whole thing, not even expecting it to be a good time.
Cue in Verso, who just goes home with Gustave expecting a quick one night stand - only to once he finds out about how Gustave’s never had real sex before, to show him just how good it can be, over multiple hookups, slowly but surely falling completely for him and stopping his fuck-boi tendencies

His jaw drops and he gapes at Gustave. ”No. No, no, you’re not serious.”
Gustave isn’t fazed by it, at all.”
In which Verso’s a vampire, the Expedition is over and Gustave finds him in the Lumiére Gardens and makes an offer. Includes mutual pining, blood-drinking and them being completely stupid about each other.
