“Mate.” Max absolutely cannot believe this guy is a real person. He has to be a prank. A large-scale, multimillion prank designed just to make Max look like a fucking idiot. “Who did you think it was, the Babadook?”

George isn't gay, and Max isn't a girl. This turns out to be a lot more of a problem than anticipated.

Afterward, Olruggio learned he'd been wrong: it didn't change things. Or all that changed was the cadence of his nights—only some of them, but enough to leave him wondering when and if.

Soap's nauseous about his mistake, of course, and worried about the consequences. And he’s a little turned on, sure; that’s not new when it comes to watching Ghost throw all that power around.

But also—Soap recognizes, with pathetic resignation—he’s jealous.

Jealous of the random guy Ghost just knocked out and choked unconscious.

    That’s probably fine.

    Summary

Olruggio knew, long before it all came crashing down, that he’d made a terrible decision. That the consequences would catch up to him, and there’d be no avoiding a series of potentially world-ending conversations.

He just hadn’t expected it to happen quite so spectacularly.

The initial idea, prompted by a suggestion from an older noblewoman who’d commissioned him for something completely different, wasn’t bad at all. He’d been working on a set of singing stones, and the lady had made an offhanded comment about the potential of magic that could make an object resonate. She’d meant it as a joke, but where she saw humor, Olruggio saw potential—and told her as much.

And just like that, he’d had a commission. And a problem.
