Event 2: Heathcliff turns his back for a moment (fine, a few moments), and his secret notebook "mysteriously vanishes" into thin air. In the place where it was, lies a singular rose petal.
Event 3: Don Quixote starts growing out her hair.

This conversation tastes sugar-smoke familiar, but you can’t criticize it. The ache-urge in your chest colored that visceral shade you remember from the copper-caramel taste in your mouth always tries to get you to feel anger, rage, a surefire determination to fix what has gone forgotten, but that’s the shade that drove the King mad, and you don’t want to be some kind of ghost of him—it would be too easy. He reflects you, in your worst moments, but you aren’t allowed to carry glass anymore, so you aren’t allowed to carry him, either.
(Weeks after the end of everything, the party finds an abandoned observatory.)

In the room you share with Isabeau, there are few things of note. A lockbox with a provided key. A large window letting in moonlight. A circular table with two chairs and a desk at the wall. A bed that you currently share with one of the kindest, most incredible people you know, who you’ve hurt in ways that you can never take back (despite how much you might want to). He’s gently snoring, which you used to find funny and now find hopelessly endearing, and in his sleep he’s flung an arm over your midsection.
You only realize this as you startle awake, your breathing quick and shallow. The air is too still. It’s too quiet.
(If you listen closely, you think you can hear something drip onto stone.)
