“Hello, Sirius.”
The voice is quiet, barely audible over the shriek of another inmate begging for the patronus to come nearer to them and give them the same respite from the Dementor's horrors, but Sirius hears it. He knows it. The rough accent, cracked and broken resonates deeper inside of him than his own voice would. The sound of it makes him feel as though he can draw breath for the first time in what feels like forever. The voice is relief and warmth and heartbreak all wrapped together.

Summary

Severus is content to allow the obvious problems rising in Potter to be addressed by the boy’s other teachers, and the people who cared for him. Summary
If anyone else had walked into the train compartment and taken a perfunctory look, they likely would’ve assumed that Sirius Black was sleeping. He was face down on the grimy bench, lips slightly parted, yielding to shallow but loud breaths, his hair splayed wildly across his back, clothed in layers of undershirts and robes despite the early September heat.
But James Potter was not anyone else, and he understood that Sirius was not asleep. Sirius was in pain.
