Summary
For seven years, Jayce and V were partners at the agency—an unstoppable duo, completely oblivious to their mutually reciprocated feelings—until one day Jayce shows up to work and V is nowhere to be found, only to be told V no longer worked for the Men in Black.
Two years later, and Jayce is still without answers. He hasn't been able to keep a new partner for very long ever since V's disappearance, and now he's being threatened with one last chance before he's benched from the field indefinitely. At this point, he wonders if it'd be better to just roll over and give up—until one day, on his way home, Jayce bumps into someone familiar. Someone he'd missed terribly.
Now Jayce finds himself torn between getting to know this different side of V—of Viktor, neuralyzed, a blank slate—and trying, once and for all, to get to the bottom of why Viktor had left the agency in the first place.

“That is true.” Viktor hummed with a nod of his head “But I am your partner Jayce and I believe I promised you that I would be your bull.” His partner's voice dropped further and the possessiveness in the phrase sent a shiver quietly racing down Jayce’s spine.
Viktor’s thumb brushed absently against his temple.
“And” Viktor purred, warm breath sliding across his skin “I fully intend on keeping that promise.”

The excessive tiredness, the blankets, his scarf, the soft flush along the sides of Viktor's pale neck, and the growing scent in the lab that Jayce had falsely attributed to books from the library. Hells it probably wasn't even his change in cologne that Viktor had noted earlier, but more likely Jayce's own muted scent coming through the scent patches on his throat. Jayce goes back to reading: “I understand you’re confused about the severance procedure. Before we hop on that, let’s chat about something I bet you have heard of: the work/life balance. To start, imagine yourself as a seesaw—ow! Fuck!”
A HexCorp-branded stapler hits Jayce squarely in the face.
Following the tragic and sudden death of his partner, unable to cope with his grief, Jayce Talis resorts to the risky and controversial procedure of severance: splitting the memories of his work life and personal life to forget about losing Viktor for eight hours a day. It's working. It’s helping him. It must be.
Until, one day, a random stranger breaks into his garage claiming to know him; claiming there is a way to reverse the severance procedure and warning him that not everything about either HexCorp or Viktor’s death is as it seems.
