Summary
He’s not unfamiliar with students’ parents trying to matchmake. He’s not even unfamiliar, sadly, with students’ parents trying to match him with the student in question. He is, however, unfamiliar with being the target of the much-beloved daughter of the University’s chancellor. When he tells his department head, the response he gets is: “Be ready to marry whoever she proposes.”
Casting around frantically, fearfully, for the best response that is absolutely not I will be happy to court your daughter, he settles on the truth not as it is, but the truth as he wishes it were.
“I’m sorry,” he tells the lovely woman in the twinset and pearls, over tea in the university’s upscale faculty club. “I already have a boyfriend.”

And yet, here Shane is, sitting on their living room floor, having fought Rose Landry to get his phone back, and making a Face. He knows he is making a face, he can feel his forehead scrunching and his jaw aching and he can do nothing about it except wait for -
"So who's Lily?!"
