There was something intoxicating about it, the thought of a person who was not only half himself but half Baela.
If he could, he’d yell at the top of his lungs about it. He’d bring it up to everyone in sight, the fact that the babe could look just like Baela. That they could wear a replica of her jaw, her nose, the curl of her hair. The fact that there was a babe in the first place.
It’d not been an easy thing to conceal but Baela was determined, refusing to even risk being sidelined in a war that was for her children’s claim just as much as it was for Rhaenyra’s. They’d made the choice the night they’d wed, both wanting children and knowing deep down that having an heir for Jace would only strengthen his claim. He wanted her to be safe, how could he not, but at the same time he respected her enough as a dragonrider and as a wife to know that he could not hold her back in this. Dragons did as they wished, to control one was an illusion only a fool would believe, and Baela wished to burn down every obstacle in their family’s path.
