Mack had been getting ready to wallow, to head back to Vancouver, where his family were busy and he would mostly be left to his own devices, when a shadow appeared in front of him.
Looking up, there he was. Standing tall and proud, regal and captainly, not at all like he had just had a 19 year old calling the shots over him, was Sidney Crosby.
Sid looked down at him, with those kind eyes that had looked at Mack with awe and happiness since they first played together, those eyes that could offer a shoulder without saying a single word.
And he offered him an opportunity. Mack had already had the opportunity to go to Nova Scotia and train with Sid, and Nate, but that was less important, but this offer was something different. Something more.

"Get in here, kid," Scott says. "Let's talk."After his fight with Shane on the ice, Scott learns more about the soft spot he'd hit, and Shane realises he might have found a safe space to talk about what's going on with him and Rozanov.

“What three words describe your game?”
Macklin stares at the computer screen for longer than he should. He’s sure the other guys are just filling out this questionnaire as quickly as possible without putting much thought into it, but he can’t quite bring himself to do that. He knows he needs to prove himself; he’s not confident that there weren’t better options for the Olympic roster, and he wants to show the world that he belongs here representing Canada.
Normally, he would ask Will for help with this, but he’s been trying to avoid Olympics talk with his best friend. Will didn’t make the Team USA roster - not that he thought he would, and he doesn’t seem upset about it - and Macklin doesn’t want to seem like he’s bragging by forcing Will to interact with all of this extra work that’s been dumped on Macklin’s plate.

It was the right time of year for an apple cake, and from what he’d found online, it was a heck of a lot easier than zefir. It was for sure easier than the meatball soup he’d been working on. The zharenaya kartoshka was almost done, and he checked the clock on the stove. Ilya would be here any moment.
Yuna rushed back into the kitchen to grab the sour cream and mustard. She rests her hand above the cake before nodding to David, “It’s good. Or it will be once we’re done with everything else.” They both turn their heads as they hear Ilya’s car pull up in the driveway. Yuna is almost to the door when she hears Ilya ring the doorbell. They’d given him a key, but he was still wary of using it, it seemed.

Set post-Heated Rivalry and pre-The Long Game, this takes place when Ilya is just getting settled in Ottawa. Yuna and David invite him over for dinner while Shane is away on a road trip, telling him they want to help make him feel at home. David and Yuna research traditional Russian comfort dishes to make for him.
