He stared, horrified, watching the man before him take a small red bead from a leather pouch.
“I trust you know what this is?”
He did. He knew exactly what it was, what it was for, and why it was there. His arms twitched and pulled, desperately trying to break free of the iron shackles holding his hands apart. He strained to try and get his palms together, to do something other than sit there helplessly while the man in front of him advanced.
He resisted the urge to scream when Father grabbed his jaw, and forced his mouth open.
“Don’t worry. If it doesn’t take, the pain will only last a minute.”
