Summary
Sans' entire purpose in life was to make Frisk happy. Not out of altruism, of course - just to keep them from resetting. Well, stall a reset was probably more accurate. Even if it was just for one more day, that was one more day Papyrus got to be happy.
...He didn't mean to fall in love with them, but it happened anyway.

Summary
This story depicts the struggles of the monsters after moving to the surface. The coldness they were met with and the problems they have to deal with after encountering humans. Mostly Sans and Frisk centered, it follows the evolution of Frisk growing up as an ambassador, and Sans' feelings and comfort around humans. Just like in today's society, we are having a hard time accepting anyone that does not look or think like us, we tend to isolate them, make them an enemy, judging on looks, race, ethnicity etc., in this case, the monsters became the race that almost everyone decided to label as enemies.

This is a story about right, wrong, and the no-man's-land that lies in-between. While Frisk wrestles with the unconditional love they bear their criminal family and their own over-inflated sense of morality, Sans struggles to protect them from the consequences of a gang war he himself may have accidentally started.
You know what they say about good intentions. The road to hell is paved with them.

The streets were quiet in the Under-City, as it was still barely dawn. The slowly brightening sky casted wisps of oranges and pinks over the cobblestones, and stained the window panes of the sleepy town, a telltale sign of the quickly approaching sunrise. At first, this sight would appear quite serene, maybe even tranquil to the ignorant outsider, or the casual passerby. Frisk new better,however, then to trust the peaceful illusion presented by the empty streets of the Under- City as she stuck to the shadows of the back alley ways, refusing to so much as touch the light of the new dawn. This was Ebbot after all, and no amount of peaceful sunrises could bathe away the true grime of the Under- City that existed in the form of organized crime and corruption which clung to Ebbot like thick black tar. Though it might look pretty from a distance life was hard here, and making an honest living was a concept really only found in fairy tales.

Summary
Eight years after the barrier was broken, monsters are integrating well into human society. It’s taken a while to overcome the “kill or be killed” culture, but thanks to hard work on the part of the royal family - including a dedicated ambassador - things are finally looking up for monsterkind.
Well, most of them.
Without life-threatening danger to motivate him, Sans is surviving on nothing but snark and grim humor. He’s losing himself a little more every day, and nothing can stop it. Nothing except, maybe, a little girl who needs him more than either of them could have guessed. Too bad her mom hates him so much.
