Summary

He's not stupid. The Council doesn't give people choices, not really. If they sent her in to get him, that's because they decided he would go with her, not because she was just supposed to ask.
She sounded so sincere, though. Like she really believed that he got to choose, even though he's supposed to be a soldier, and a fighter, and to follow orders and to be the best. Like she would march back into the Council room and start arguing with them all over again if he decided he didn't want to be her family, even though he knows she must have spent ages convincing them to let a Downworlder raise a Nephilim. She sounded sincere, and he wanted so, so badly for her to be telling the truth, so he thought that maybe, if he asked to go by her name, she'd get mad and admit the truth.
She didn't get mad. Her eyes got all glossy and wet, and she invited him to sit next to her, and she said she would be honored.
No one has ever been honored to have him around before.
