Still troubled by the mysteries of Kaguya and his personal guilt, Sasuke is split between friends and his journey. Troubled by rising casualties and international dependence on her abilities, Sakura is torn between her love for Sasuke and her duty to her village. Taking a chance on love, Sakura joins Sasuke on his next mission in his search for traces of the Otsusuki in the deserts of Sunagakure.
This story takes place immediately after the Sakura Hiden and Sasuke Shinden Light Novels. It tries to be as canon-compliant as possible with minor inconsistencies or deviations.

“How are you doing?” Peter asked with a tired, self deprecating smile. His voice was still hoarse from all his shed tears.
“I’m okay,” Gamora said immediately, considering that her full and complete answer. She didn’t really have much more to say than that. But Peter’s face completely fell at her response.
“Really,” he said, but it wasn’t a question. More like a statement of doubt. An unimpressed one. He didn’t believe her.
When she saw the worry increase in his eyes and Peter’s clearly negative reaction (was he hurt? That he just opened up to her and cried in her arms but thought she wouldn’t tell him if she wasn’t doing okay?) Gamora realized she should have gone with a different answer.
Instead of that immediate response that was reserved for anyone asking her that question.
Because this wasn’t anyone.
This was Peter.

Gamora is not unhappy with her life, which is more than she has ever been able to say before. But she doesn't necessarily have everything she wants, either. There was something different about working with the Guardians; about working with Quill. A familiarity and a spark that had made it thrilling in a way she wouldn’t have thought possible. A feeling she would very much like to have again, dangerous as that might feel to admit.
Gamora is not bound by anyone or anything now. She does what she wants to do. Including, but not limited to, traveling to Earth on a whim to see Peter Quill.
