Summary
Seeing Darry start to run across the field and knowing that he had a gun trained on him had Wayne's heart racing something fierce. He took off in a sprint before the fireworks could even be lit, needing more than anything to protect Darry. Gun shots were still ringing out when Wayne finally got an arm around Darry, both of them finally slowing to a stop as fireworks lit up the sky.
“I got ya, Darry,” Wayne murmured as he pulled his best bud closer to him. “I got ya.”
