Something about that stung. It wasn’t unfair or malicious, of course not. That wasn’t how Goose was, but it did tug at the insecurity that had been buried. One that had been hidden under memories of family dinners, warm hugs from Bradley, and pet names from both Carole and Nick, that he had rarely been called as a child. Because Pete had been so sure that he was a part of Nick’s family. It was strange how one little word could send him into a spiral so quickly.
