We used to joke that it was a shame he hadn’t been born a dame, ‘cause he missed his calling as a nurse—don’t look at me like that; it was a compliment, and I think it’s swell that men can be nurses now. Anyway, Bucky’s great with colds. And the flu, and stomach bugs, and he’s actually pretty good with rheumatic fever too. Not so much with pneumonia, but you can’t really hold that against him.”
Sam decides not to ask. “I don’t think I have pneumonia.”
(Sam falls sick right when Steve needs to go out Avenging. Luckily, Bucky, who's less than a year free from being the Winter Soldier and mostly spends his days prowling around the house, is around to take care of him.)

But then, in late July, Shane Hollander can be seen in his backyard that faces all the other backyards around the lake, and the group of neighbors that gather a few times a week compare notes as they occasionally spot him over the next two weeks. He sometimes is seen with his parents on their property. A few neighbors report the billowing smoke from the fire pit in the evenings. His teenage granddaughter and her visiting friends giggle over catching a glimpse of the young hockey player without a shirt on while sitting in his lone Adirondack chair during their afternoon on the water.
Shane Hollander's first summer as their neighbor comes and goes with much less fanfare than most of them were expecting.
