    There is a lot of time to kill on the long journey to Erid, Grace suggests drawing each other as a fun activity.

    “It can’t be real,” she whispered into her hands.

    The pounding in her head spiked. Her skin felt fit to burst with whatever writhed beneath. Growing, growing, growing.

    “Why not?” Solas asked, his voice sounded far away, as if he were speaking through water.

    If this was real, that would mean she was in the past. That would mean the years she had lived through had vanished as if they had never happened. But they had! The pain of it was etched into her very being. No nightmare could ever hope to live up to the sight of Solas’ unseeing eyes. That was agonisingly real. Not whatever this strange dream was!

    “I know this isn’t real, because I felt you die!” Selene roared, slamming her hands down onto his desk.

    Something erupted from deep within her. A surge of potent power poured out of her. All her terror and fury and confusion, crystallised into corporeality. A solid freezing wave of it that enveloped the desk in a thick sheet of ice.

    She now had a name for the foreign sensation that had pushed up against her edges, threatening to explode her into a million tiny pieces.

    Magic.

    He gasped into her open palm, his own breath, hot and heaving, clouded around his face.
    “I’m sorry. Ir abelas.”
    “It’s okay. I know you can’t help it,” she said.
    The kiss she placed onto his brow was chaste. The groan it elicited was anything but.

     

    The attack was meant for the Inquisitor, but when Solas takes the brunt of it instead, he has to deal with the consequences. It is not the first time this particular aphrodisiac has been used on him. Stripped of sense and sanity, Solas must contend with the memory of that, while his body rebels against him.

    “And you run that farm all by yourself?” Sanji hears said shopkeep, an older man with a low voice, say suspiciously.

    “Oh, no, no!” chimes Usopp, in the tone he uses when he is deep, deep into bullshitting, “not by myself! I run it with my brother, of course!”

    The shopkeep folds his arms over his chest. “A brother, huh?”

    “Yeah, brother! In fact, here he is now!”

    Sanji has just enough time to process the words before a familiar arm slings around his shoulder, and he's physically pulled into the charade. He goes with it easily and leans into his friend without thinking much—this is a fairly standard motion, one practiced nearly every day on the Merry. He raises his visible eyebrow at Usopp.

    Usopp grins a grin at Sanji which screams, ‘roll with it.’ He says, “We were just talking about you!”

    Or: Plotless fluff in which Usopp drags Sanji into some improv.

    Divergent Paths is a Dragon Age Inquisition expanded retelling with a focus on the relationships Lavellan and Solas builds throughout the events of the games. The primarily featured relationship is between Solas and Lavellan, but there is a deep exploration of friendships, romantic attachments and rivalries among the companions as well as some original characters.

    My aim is to explore the in-between moments, the ones that happened off-screen mostly, while keeping the integrity of the story intact. There will be canon divergence in this story, first in small ways that allow for my Lavellan and Solas to react to situations in a way better fitting to their characters, in my opinion. Later in the story, there will be points of significant divergence that will affect everything. Overall, however, I am to keep as canon compliant as possible for the sake of the established characters, history and lore.

    The scope of this work is rather ambitious, and it may take me a long time to finish publishing the story, but I can promise that I have an ending planned and I don’t intend to abandon it. So please, jump on board and enjoy the ride! I am delighted to have you here.
