Summary
A worried looking intern ran into the lab,
“Mr Stark, sir, what is happening? Are we in danger?” confusion and fear was obvious in their voice.
Stark sighed, a thump echoed through the lab as his head made contact with the work bench in front of him.
“It's Friday night”, Tony mumble into the metal surface he was still face planting on.
“Yes sir?” The intern questioned, less scared this time, but confusion tripled.
Tony turned his head so as to face the intern, a smirk appearing on this face.
“You must be new.”

Summary
“I suspect,” snapped Gandalf, “that your ‘lucky ring’ was in fact a dwarven ring of power, one of seven which have been lost, and which you somehow stumbled upon in Moria. Now you have destroyed both it and the dragon in one fell swoop! And that’s all well and good for Thorin Oakenshield and his Company. But an act of destruction like that means the Lord of Darkness who willed that ring into being will have noticed, and like as not, he’s amassing his army as we speak. All of Gondor may have fallen before I’ve so much as caught sight of Osgiliath!”
“…I didn’t mean any harm,” said Bilbo. He managed to sound both mulish and heartbroken in the same breath.

Or: Bilbo destroys the One Ring. It solves fewer problems than you’d think.

Summary
Bilbo didn't expect to become friends with his cousin's ex-wife but he fully embraced it, becoming the supporter Lobelia needed as she picked herself up and pursued her own happiness. And if an intimidating dwarf from Erebor made her happy, then Bilbo didn't mind using the Took in him to help bring them together.
What he did mind was the handsome king that was doing a very bad job of hiding his interest.

Summary
Erebor was reclaimed, everybody lived, Thorin was reunited with the nephews he thought were lost, and Bilbo chose to stay in the mountain as Thorin’s “assistant” rather than return to the Shire.
Bilbo has settled into what he's sure will be many years of peace and homely comforts with Thorin, until a brutal war with a resurgent Sauron claims the lives of the king and both his heirs. The new king Dain returns alive from the last battle and begins to reshape the court of Erebor to suit his own purposes. Overlooked and underestimated, Bilbo is left to ask himself the big questions, like whether he still has a place in the Lonely Mountain.
And also, questions like: isn’t it awfully convenient for Dain, that everyone ahead of him in line for the throne died in the same battle?
And also: where are their bodies?
A story where Bilbo is basically The Constant Gardener, Dain is basically Richard III, and the descendants of Durin may be harder to kill than in canon.
