Summary
After a lifetime of being the youngest sibling, Dennis should've been used to the way his brothers dragged him into things he wanted nothing to do with in the first place. When that man walked out of the corn stalks, sticky with blood and staring him down with eyes that could kill, it became abundantly clear to the Whitakers that this time, they might have gone too far. This time, they may have invited a monster beyond their comprehension onto their baby brother's doorstep.

Less than a week before the start of his residency at Bronx-General, Van hooks up with a hot older guy in a bar. The issue comes when he shows up to his first shift, only to find that the hot older guy is the head neurosurgeon. And this is the last thing Josh wanted to happen.

Dennis screeches to a halt as soon as he lays his eyes on none other than his recent bar hookup, introducing himself as John Carter to none other than Trinity. She looks around, eyes landing on Dennis, and calling out, “Huckleberry! Get a load of this.”
John’s eyes, quite unfortunately, land on Dennis. His smile grows as he says, “Dennis?” He moves past the group to clap a hand on his shoulder, much like Robby would. “Hey, I thought we had a good time the other night, but you disappeared in the morning. Did I do something wrong?”
Dennis feels all the blood leave his face as he sees a look of realization and horror cross over Trinity’s features that spreads throughout the group, including Dr. Robby.
He's so screwed.

Summary
What's burned in his memory is the man scoffing at that hand because it was attached to him, the condescending pity in his eyes as he looked up at Dennis.
The slight smirk that broke its way through all the pain that the man was very clearly experiencing, looking at him like he was a precocious little child who didn't actually understand what was happening.
