"Remus lit one of the cigarettes he carried in the pocket of his jacket, which had been Sirius’s, as had been the cigarettes, and tried not to shed any more tears as he looked at the charred ruins of a house. He hadn’t attended the funeral because he’d have somehow found it in bad taste and because he didn’t want to see Dumbledore or any of the others, with all the sympathy and every “I told you so” in the world glinting in their eyes."
After the events of Godric's Hollow, Lily comes back long enough to right some wrongs.

"On the day Ranma turned eighteen, he woke up at the crack of dawn intending to go out for a run around the neighborhood and train for a while before classes. He tiptoed down the stairs, trying not to wake the whole house, and almost had a heart attack when he found Akane sitting cross-legged at the dining room table. She had a huge cake in front of her with his name written in shaky block letters with some pink stuff.
The weight that Ranma suddenly felt in his stomach didn’t have anything to do with the perspective of trying to eat the cake. Granted, that could only end in disaster, and he didn’t like the idea of spending his birthday with Akane angry at him, but that was not what he was thinking about. Seeing her sitting there with her arms crossed and an air of determination to her, dread filled Ranma's insides. Somehow, he knew they were about to have that conversation he’d been trying to avoid for months."
Ranma turns eighteen, and his life doesn't go exactly as planned. When Akane leaves, he has to figure out what to do with himself, which turns into a self-discovery journey and some romance.
