In what remains of the Dark Multiverse, Duke is a multiversal Batman, the Final Knight. In another multiverse, Bruce Wayne is testing multiversal travel technology in the right place and time, and Duke gets pulled into a multiverse that hasn’t been ravaged by Barbatos. Upon realizing the multiversal barrier breach appears to be a one-time fluke, Duke is stuck there. And with no mission, he has time to heal.

Well, clearly ‘ they’ (Steph and Damian that is) were full of shit, because now Duke was awake at 5am, freezing half to death because one half of Gotham was a frozen wasteland, while the other was bathed in flames.
Or: There's an Arkham breakout, and Duke suffers for it.
