“Okay, so who do we need, then?”

“And Smitty.”
Tim exhaled. “Lucy.”
“What?”
“We are not having Smitty at our wedding.”

In hindsight, Lucy isn’t entirely sure how it begins.
All she knows is that it’s Friday night and she’s sitting at a table with Tim, a bottle of whiskey between them, and a paper and pen on the table.
“Hard limits?” Tim asks, and Lucy bites her lip as she thinks. She’s tempted to say ‘none’, but she had been blissfully unaware of all the possible sexual acts that could come out in a Dominate and Submissive relationship until Tim had told her to do her research, and then meet him for dinner on Friday to talk about it in a tone that booked no argument and also turned her on so quickly that her vision blurred.
That had been two days ago, and she has barely slept since then, because every bit of research she does causes her brain to short circuit when she considers it in relation to Tim.

Lucy isn’t expecting it, is the thing.
She’s ready for it to be a bad day. At some point in the very near future, she’s going to dump her boyfriend for another man, and – despite all the questionably-helpful practice runs with Aaron – there’s no way either of them makes it through that without it hurting, especially since Chris has no idea it’s coming.
So today was always gonna suck, even before the addition of a missing baby at Hep-C Central. Lucy’s ready for today to suck.
She’s less ready for the bullets.
