The mostly empty space she had spent the majority of her life scouring in service to the Borg was as familiar to her as her own face. As a drone, she had never pondered its sheer enormity, understanding it only as a thing to be traversed in pursuit of perfection. In the time since her severance from the collective, she realized just how futile that search really was. The Borg’s desire for perfection was vaster than space. Its insatiability was inefficient, a moving target always lurking behind an event horizon.

Therese removed the napkin to find a blush-tinted imprint of Carol’s lips on the glass’s rim. She shrugged to Dannie as though she wasn’t crushed inside by this complete stranger’s departure, and grabbed the glass as casually as if on bar-back duty, going away to clean it. But she didn’t do that.
Once out of sight, her body acted on some deep, animal impulse before she could stop it. She pressed her lips to Carol’s lingering ones and tipped the drink back, letting its smooth, rich flavor slide down her throat, until all of it was inside her. It was strong. It was good.
She went to dry her guilty mouth with the napkin, but black ink on its underside caught her eye.

Hermione snatched up her keys and looked around the flat one last time. Turning towards the exit, she furrowed her brow and threw her front door open distractedly. “What do you mean she’s missing a radish—”
She screeched to a halt and fumbled the phone, barely cradling it against her ear as she almost ran into someone standing on the small landing. She managed to save herself and the person in question from the impending collision, but only just. Straightening herself, Hermione glanced up only to become absolutely entranced by the clearest set of azure colored eyes she’d ever seen.
The woman had turned abruptly upon Hermione’s exit and she gazed at the flustered brunette with barely concealed amusement. Her eyes glittered under the landing’s dim lamplight and Hermione stood momentarily stunned by the vision in front of her.
Because if Andy and Bella were the night sky, then Narcissa Black was pure moonlight.
