When humans started to work Iron, they did not mine it yet - they forged iron that came from the sky in form of meteors. This foreign, cold, celestial matter did not resonate with the spirits of the Earth - The Fae Folk, who developed among stone, wood, bone and bronze. Iron arrived suddenly, violently. It spread with agriculture, borders, fences, weapons.
The old world receded, as iron advanced.
