Sleep. Jade needed it desperately before she could let her thoughts get away from her, before she could truly realize how much she wanted to go back to the Wildwood. How much she no longer belonged here amongst people who had their own roots, and destinies and blood in Tir Asleen.
“Oh my god , I never want to wear anything remotely tight ever again.”
Kit came practically tumbling in through the stable’s window, wearing sleep clothes comparable to a potato sack. Her hair was damp and her face was clear of dirt and grime. Jade’s pulse quickened at the sight.

They’d done it. Defeated the crone, saved Airk, talked about their feelings. It was supposed to be easier now, yet somehow it just… wasn’t.
The crew makes it home to Tir Asleen and now Jade has some rather difficult decisions to make.

"Are you ready for the pageantry?" Kit asked from where she lounged on a small chaise, one leg hanging off the side and the other bent at the knee and hooked over the sofa's arm. "I don't actually have to words to explain how glad I am that this is happening to you instead of me."
"Kind of you," Elora shot back but there was no heat in it. “You’re mean when Jade’s not here.”
Kit groaned theatrically. “Don’t remind me. She’ll be back before the ceremony at least. After that, do I have start calling you all your titles? Your Eminence? Your Radiance?”
“If you call me Radiance, I will check if you’re possessed,” Elora told her. She heard a muffled sound from the seamstress that could either have been a laugh or a cough. The answering smile slowly faded as she thought about the future. About what it would bring. About what it would take. "I don't know. I just... I don't feel like an empress."
