Summary
There’s not much to do at his desk except stare at the clutter on its surface, so he gets up and does the habitually teacher-move of walking up and down the rows of tables.
Mikey has broken his pencil clean in half. Again.
Grace pulls his own pencil from behind his ear and slides it onto the boy’s desk. He rubs the side of his head where the pencil had been pressing and straightens his glasses. The teacher contemplates putting on one of those 15-minute video timers on youtube that make a huge exploding sound when the time is up.
Feeling a tug on his shirt, he glances down. He knows it’s bad manners to do that instead of asking for a teacher’s attention, but he’d rather be poked and prodded than make a shy kid cry.
