Lan Wangji hissed, closing his eyes for a moment before forcing himself to look back at his husband. The sting from the blade was bearable but combined with his injured arm twisted back, it was difficult to hide the pain in his eyes. Not that it would have worked anyway, Wei Ying knew every line of his face, knew all of his expressions, no matter how small.
Wei Ying’s eyes darkened as his hand settled on Chenqing. “Lower your dagger or you won’t leave this forest alive."
Or, 5 times Wei Wuxian protected his loved ones and one time Lan Wangji protected him.

“Who’s Lan Zhan?” he asks.
The pretty man by his side inhales so sharply Wei Ying feels the air get sucked out of the room.

Or: Wei Ying, rookie architect and chronically unable to prioritize his love life, in a moment of madness turns out to be tested for compatibility with famous new entertainer Lan Zhan, struggling with the after-effects of chemo. Unexpectedly matched with a man on a very different career trajectory, he's presented with a litany of unappealing choices. Oh, and also love.

“You’re crying,” Jiang Cheng laughed, as if the tears running down Wuxian’s face were uncalled for; comedic. “You killed her, you killed them all, but you’re the one crying?!” His voice grew loud like thunder, reverberating through the room despite the poor acoustics of silk and wood.
Wei Wuxian’s neck began to cramp up, and his back was making odd snapping noises from his abhorrent posture. He was trembling, and as he tried to craft a response, Jiang Cheng began to laugh.
The laughter was the dissonant twinge of an incorrectly plucked guqin, oscillating between piercing high tones and warning low. These years, which had been nothing but the blink of an eye for Wei Wuxian, had shattered Jiang Cheng. Wei Wuxian’s heart shuddered. These years have broken his shidi.
“If you want to cry so bad, I’ll give you something to cry about.”
