Pik and Jaijai claim that they are just friends, or at least they convince themselves that they are nothing more than that. Pik says it like a mantra: “We’re just friends!”, reminding himself that he should keep his feelings in check or else he could lose the person he loves the most. Jai says it like it’s the most natural thing in the world: “Yeah, just friends with benefits.”, because he cannot imagine what life could be if he doesn’t have Pik–and friends are forever, dating is temporary–at least this way he can keep Pik without having to deal with complicated emotions and labels that means nothing if it can easily fade away.
Both of them didn’t want to lose the other, but one of them keeps hoping that if they hold on long enough, maybe, just maybe, they can be more than friends. The other doesn’t want to be more than anything, since, since this way we can’t hurt each other, or so he thought.
