    Summary

Choi's usual job description tends to demand him evacuating or shielding panicked people from gore, horror and death. An impromptu museum date in order to clear a disaster was certainly not part of it. Especially not with the most uncooperative and suspicious civilian he's ever met.

    Summary

“I’m okay,” he says in a steady voice. “But I can’t be who you’re looking for.”

“Who do you think I’m looking for?” Agent Choi asks, voice deathly quiet. “Are you not Kim Soleum?”

    He is.

But he’s not Kim Soleum in any way that matters.

He’s not a Kim Soleum that can feel anything. That can do anything. That can be anything, except a shell of what a person should be.

    .

(Two and a half years after 208, Agent Choi finds Kim Soleum working a dull desk job.)

“Why are the shutters down?” He questioned, his own voice feeling loud and unnatural in the previous near-silence. He glanced around, noting that all the windows were tightly covered, not by mere blinds but actual metal shutters.

That’s why the lights in the room felt overwhelming. There wasn’t a hint of natural sunlight shining in.

“Routine lockdown drill,” Park Minseong answered.

    Summary

It was said the Saint—Kim Soleum—was not omniscient, and yet spoke on behalf of something that was; that if your life held meaning, then Ireum-nim knew of it, and by extension, so did the Saint.

And Choi wondered, then, whether that omniscience was real.

Did the Saint see through him? Through the mask, the mission, the farce of faith?

Did he know what Choi truly believed—or didn’t?

or: what does it mean, to be named?

    Summary

"I feel responsible for him," says Jaekwan at last. Squinting at Choi slightly, frowning: always frowning. He's going to get wrinkles like that. "Agent Grapes."

"Of course you do," says Choi. Jaekwan feels responsible for everybody; he'd come into the Bureau all alone in the world, and somehow that had convinced him that the world was something that he had to take under his wing at the ripe old age of too young, like he was Ultraman. Jaekwan feels responsible for those smaller than him, those weaker than him, those kinder than him, those less capable than him. South Korea could create another sovereign nation with the number of people that Jaekwan feels responsible for. They could populate Mars with the number of people that Jaekwan feels responsible for. They could create another Milky Way with the number of people that Jaekwan feels responsible for. "What else is new?"

In which Agent Choi expertly navigates his relationships with his new coworker, his job, his perennial traumas, Agent Bronze, and the gruesome reality of the paranormal, not necessarily in that order.
