It's just that if any traits of Poseidon's can be said to be admirable, it's that he is a very devoted father. Yes, he has countless children by countless different women (and men, too). But every single one of those countless children is his, wholly and completely, forever. So when little Percy Jackson is born, Poseidon's first child in decades, the mighty king of the seas finds himself absolutely smitten with this tiny newborn demigod. “SHHHH!” She was being not much quieter than he was but at least she removed her hand once she saw the side eye he gave her, “Some of these trees have been extinct since around the latest centuries of Ancient Greece.”
He looked around. It didn’t seem that different to him. He wouldn’t know though, it’s not like he knew every type of tree that went extinct. He could hardly tell spruce from pine, and pine trees were his father’s trees!
But there was one thing he did know: Annabeth knows everything.
Bile was building, he refused to acknowledge it, didn’t want to. Didn’t want to face the deep churning of unwelcome truth in his gut, “So…what does that mean?”
Knowing full well what it meant, but needing to hear it anyway, he braced for impact.
“We’re in Ancient Greece.”
