Summary
Scar had already been searching for hours with no signs of his husband.
None of his messages had been answered (though they had all been read), and Grian had turned off his location too.
Most people would think that wherever he was, he didn't want to be found.
But Scar knew better.
Grian had been losing feathers left and right for a week and a half now, and despite his persistent preening, he was never comfortable.
It broke Scar's heart to see him constantly miserable. However, molting was unavoidable.

It’s Grian’s least favorite time of year: molting season. The time where he sheds and regrows all of the feathers on his body. And he hates it. Thankfully, he has a wonderful husband who would do literally anything to help him feel better.

Mimicking Scar's earlier actions, Grian slid down to the floor and sat down in front of him. He closed his eyes as Scar's hands gently threaded into his hair. There was a light tugging every so often, but otherwise it felt nice. How hard had Grian been pulling?
“I feel like I've never seen your hair this long,” Scar murmured.
“Yeah…I should probably cut it soon.”
“Nah, don't. I like it like this.”
Grian huffed softly, “And since when do I care what you think?”

"Bad pain day?" He asks, echoing Etho's question from earlier.
Etho nods, pressing his thumb into the side of his knee and massaging it gently. Tango shuffles to sit up, sending the water rocking, and bats Etho's hand away, taking over the soft ministrations.
Etho hums softly.
"Thanks Tango," He murmurs, bumping their shins together in some show of gratitude.
"Ah, it's nothing. Y'know I love spending time with you."

"Mumbo, we need to talk about what happened." His voice is soft, but Mumbo can't help but be scared.
This is it, he's going to be kicked off the server. All he does is cause problems, he's surprised they let him stay here for so long.
They probably just felt guilty since he joined as a teenager and he had nowhere else to go, has nowhere else to go.
So he does the only thing he can think of.
He shakes his head and keeps his face hidden in Grian's jumper.

The man hovering over him leaned back, releasing Grian completely. Cold night air rushed in to fill the void.
“I guess it’s out in the open now,” the stranger hummed. “Shame. I wanted to avoid this.”
With the additional glow occupying the space between them, Grian was finally able to catch features that were lost in the prior darkness. His curiosity outweighed all else, and he drank them in greedily. As soon as he saw who sat across from him, alarms blared in his mind.
This man wasn’t a civilian, wasn’t even a hero.
“Hello, Doctor,” the villain mused. “You were quite the help today.”

But it's a familiar charade— Scar slips into the back with a single sunflower clenched tight in his palm, bruising the petals and scratching against the insides of his fingers.
When Scar steps back out to the front, a ghost is waiting patiently for him at the counter.
"Oh," Scar says, and the word scrapes like rust from the well of his throat. He'd recognize those wings anywhere. "Well, hello there, Grian."

It was nothing new. So why was he making such a big deal out of it. He should just stop seeking so much attention and get himself together. It was just some stupid jokes, nothing new. Just some light-hearted jokes that hurt nobody, he didn't even think the Hermits were capable of hurting someone's feeling.
So why can't he just put the knife down and step away from the edge. Just slowly move the knife away from his skin before he breaks it, and blood comes out. He could feel the cold metal on his skin, how the skin got lighter and tried to get away from the knife.
Or I'm projecting my thoughts on my confort character to give myself some confort add 1am

Summary
A Modern / Kinda Sci-Fi fic in where;
Mumbo had been working on this project for literal years . From the start of his college to the present. This project was what earned him a lot of job opportunities in the first place. But with the stagnant progress, he’s on the verge of a burnout and perhaps on the way to a severe mental breakdown.
It doesn’t help that his childhood best friend (and crush of many years) suddenly comes back after ghosting him for so long, seemingly changed and much more closed off. Mumbo wanted to work on his little project more, but he couldn’t when his mind kept anxiously returning to the boy who had learned to shut him out.
One look at his prototype robot, the inventor eventually had an idea; since Grian seemed to dislike opening up to people, how would he feel about opening up to something non-human instead?

They take the scenic route to the horse course, an attempt to avoid as many people as possible. It mostly works, as he only runs into Pearl and Gem, giggling together about some sort of scheme. They smile and wave in greeting, but are too busy to stop and chat. Perfect.
Bdubs is waiting when he gets there, hands flapping rapidly before he's even dismounted Giddy. He lets Bdubs talk himself out, rambling about all the things Etho's missed while he was busy pulling his hair out over the texture of the air, or something.
