Shadow’s ears flick and relax ever so slightly, his expression drifting from a scowl into something a little more anxious and Espio takes a slow breath.
Right, potentially abused, definitely undersocialized, incredibly emotionally sensitive, gotta remember that.
Turning to put his back against the countertop, Espio makes himself look less tense by relaxing his tail and softening his colours to a more muted shade of purple. When he speaks, he tries for a softer tone that’s free of condescension. “Shadow,” Black and red quills flare and twitch, a mix of reflex and some instinctive need to defend himself – Espio nearly laughs at the thought, because what the hell was he going to do to Shadow? Keeping the hedgehog’s tensed frame in view, Espio tips his head and shifts his own body so that he’s as far from the kitchen entrance as possible. “Why do you think I’d be upset?”

Red blares into your eyes as alarms scream, and wail into the air.
Their shrill shrieks mixing with your own wheezing breaths. Even as the helicopter sways precariously, the various vegetation its tangled in groaning and threatening to snap under the immense weight, you still can't find it in yourself to tear your eyes away from your pilot.
Or, rather, what remained of her.
The metal, having come flying off of Runner's copter and straight into yours, painting the cockpit in shades of red and grey, wasn't the only piece to crash through the windshield. But it was the one that did the most damage. Crashing through the window, and sending shards of glass directly into Strong's eyes, the metal had sliced... No, not sliced. That wasn't the right word.
The action was more akin to... To... It, fuck... Her face had the appearance of steak after you force a blunt blade through it; torn, with bits of fat hanging freely, and muscles shredded rather than cleanly cut... crushed bone and blood oozing from what had once been her jaw. The muscles and veins still spasmed and twitched, struggling to continue doing their job.

One foot lifts, the heel falling away, clattering noisily to the floor, your toes pressing daintily to the terrace’s railings, bracing as you heave yourself up to stand, skirts billowing and flowing and flying about your body as your remaining shoe falls away as well — you extend your hand again, curl your fingers like you're shielding a small, shivering flame from the soft brushes of the wind.
The stars shine, just out of your reach.

DeepC ripples, the air abuzz with a steady stream of their magic. Without an Encounter or active Intent to force the latent magic into the shape of an attack, the magic seeks the closest conductor; you.
It sinks into your skin and works down your arm and into your hand and through the petal — jittering from the feeling, you watch the paste crackle white, the magic sinking in and creating a stronger conduit for your own Soul’s passive magic to start funneling through. From where your bloom has been set, the strange substance begins to flush a deep purple-red shade, twitching and flexing and rippling in colourful waves.
Honestly, you should be forgiven for nearly screaming when the paste swells — with a thick, almost viscous gurgling sound, it swallows your finger clear up to the base knuckle. Shuddering with childish disgust, you struggle not to throw it off and squeal, the paste starting to go from red-purple to a pasty white shade the longer it clings to your skin, rapidly becoming thinner and more runny.
A final burble, a loud, wet pop.

To be quite honest, he’d never liked winter, even from a young age. He’d always despised the frigid air, and stinging winds, and longer nights ever since his mom urged him to play in it with the other neighborhood children, had an even stronger hatred for it when his mother kept falling ill, cold ripping through their little two person home so frequently that Victor was more accustomed to the taste of medicine than he was to water.
But here, and now…
”Viiiictooooor!!” His grin went from small and fond, to wide and cheek splitting. Teeth fully bared, Mike waddled towards him, kicking slush and snow out of his way as he tottered along on wobbling legs — he was dressed in the most atrocious combination of colours he’d ever seen in his life, his thick pants split down the middle, the right a garish yellow and the left a painful looking cyan, his snow coat patterned like a quilt and covered in randomly coloured and patterned squares.
Victor hissed a little giggle at the utterly ridiculous sight of him — his strong arms were laden down with bags and another, overly large, dark brown coat with the tag still attached, the man waddling through the snow with one arm thrust into the air and waving wildly.

Summary
Confirmation bias: the human tendency to search for, interpret, and recall information that aligns with our existing beliefs, while ignoring or dismissing evidence that contradicts them.
No matter what Grace tries to tell him, Simon is very sure that the man is divine in nature. It just makes sense.

Simon winds up in The Enclosure, naturally. Grace is super down to have human company on planet Erid, but he really wishes someone would have given him a little bit of warning first. Especially about Simon’s religious cult upbringing — if he had known about that, he maybe could have planned a better-worded greeting that wasn’t basically, “Be Not Afraid.” He really set them up for failure with that one.
